EXCELLENT!!! 5 out of 5
This is an awesome season filled with lots of action and adventure. LOVE the whole series wish there was a movie to follow. If you love Stargate SG-1 you will love this and in a whole different way. SG Atlantis 4th season 5 out of 5
If you are on the fourth season, I need not tell you how addictive SG 1 and Atlantis are. The wrath make my adrenaline race...just that slight bit that makes me keep watching. The Lost City Rebounds in Season 4 4 out of 5
As a spin-off of the long-running and popular "Stargate SG-1", the second live-action Stargate series was faced with the difficult task of maintaining the elements of its parent show while establishing its own identity. Season 1 succeeded and Season 2 deepened the characters and storyline of the Pegasus Galaxy. Unfortunately, Season 3 was significantly weaker, with less focus on the Wraith and more focus on both one-off stories and the development of a decidedly uninteresting foe. The show was also faced with the prospect of being deprived of its parent series, as SG-1 ended its run. So, Season 4 was hard-pressed to pick up the slack and rebound, yet surprisingly they managed to do it.
Season 4 picks up where the Season 3 cliffhanger left off. After being forced off of Lantea by the Asurans, Atlantis is drifting through space, stranded, and running out of power. The team is forced to undertake a desperate mission to save the Lost City, a mission that leaves the Pegasus Galaxy in an even more precarious position. The events of premiere also marks the departure of series regular Tori Higginson (Dr. Weir). Taking command in her place is "Stargate SG-1" alumn Samantha Carter. Carter's character unfortunately is wasted somewhat and her presence as commander deprives the show of the civillian and moral authority that Weir had presented in Seasons 1 through 3.
In terms of stories, Season 4 is very similiar to Season 2. There are a number of storylines running throughout the season and callbacks to earlier seasons. This is coupled with badly needed character development on several fronts, particularity Teyla. Highlights include "Be All My Sins Remember'd", "Spoils of War", "Midway", and others. The guest appearances of other SG-1 alum such as Agent Malcom Barret, Dr. Lee, and Teal'c are also appreciated. The most interesting returning face is 'Todd', the Wraith who Colonel Sheppard befriended in Season 3's excellent "Common Ground". 'Todd' gives some much needed complexity to the Wraith and is comparabble to SG-1's Ba'al.
As before, if Seasons 1 & 2, but were dissapointed by Season 3, then come back through the gate. The Lost City's still here. Season 4 another- good season 5 out of 5
There were some character changes in this season. I liked Dr Wier as commander of Atlantis. But the new Commander Samatha Carter was a good replacement. She didn't have as many lines as Dr. Wier. A lot of the time she just stayed on Atlantis backing up the teams. The episodes with the Wraith were suspenseful and plot twisting. We never switched to digital in June 2009, so this was one of the DVD series we have purchased and enjoyed! We ended up buying all 5 seasons. The scripts were written so well, with plenty of witty remarks to liven things up. John Shepard had a witty answer to every enmeny question. Stargate Atlantis season 4 5 out of 5
Other than a 'to be continued' on the last episode of this box set it is a good buy. Received it in good time and condition. Price could have been a bit better though. Found it at walmart for a fair bit less after ordering.
